Completed commercial ice machine repair and preventive maintenance on a Hoshizaki KMD-505MAJ ice machine after the customer reported the unit was not producing ice properly. Upon inspection, the condenser coil was found to be heavily impacted with dirt and debris, significantly restricting airflow through the condenser. The restricted airflow caused elevated condensing temperatures, reducing refrigeration efficiency and extending ice production times. Performed a thorough condenser coil cleaning to restore proper airflow and heat rejection. After cleaning, the ice machine was monitored through a complete freeze and harvest cycle to verify proper operation. Refrigeration system performance was tested before and after the service. Final operating pressures measured approximately 55 PSIG suction and 275 PSIG discharge during the freeze cycle, which are within Hoshizaki’s recommended operating range for the existing ambient conditions. Harvest pressures were also verified and found to be normal. The freeze cycle was timed at 31 minutes, which falls within the manufacturer’s specifications. The machine completed a normal harvest cycle and resumed dropping ice properly, confirming that condenser airflow restriction was the primary cause of the production issue. At the time of departure, the commercial ice machine was operating normally with proper refrigeration pressures, acceptable freeze cycle duration, and normal harvest operation. Regular preventive maintenance, including routine condenser coil cleaning, is recommended to maximize ice production, improve energy efficiency, reduce compressor operating temperatures, and help prevent unexpected breakdowns in commercial ice machines serving restaurants, hotels, bars, and other food service facilities. Setpoint Services will follow up with the customer over the next several days to verify the machine continues producing ice normally.

Completed commercial refrigeration repair on a True Refrigeration T-35 reach-in cooler after the customer reported the unit was no longer cooling properly. Upon arrival, the evaporator fan motor was operating, but the condenser fan motor and compressor were not running. A detailed electrical inspection revealed the power supply wiring feeding the condenser section had burned, causing a loss of power to the compressor and condenser fan assembly. Repaired and reconnected the damaged electrical wiring, restoring power to the refrigeration system. During the inspection, the condenser coil was found to be heavily contaminated with oil, grease, and debris, severely restricting airflow and reducing the unit’s ability to reject heat efficiently. Performed a thorough condenser coil cleaning using commercial coil cleaner to restore proper airflow and improve refrigeration performance. After completing the repairs, the reach-in cooler was restarted and monitored through normal operation. Verified proper compressor startup, condenser fan motor operation, and overall refrigeration performance. The unit successfully pulled the cabinet temperature below 40°F before departure, confirming that the refrigeration system was operating correctly. At the time of departure, the True Refrigeration reach-in cooler was operating normally with proper compressor operation, condenser airflow, and cooling performance. Routine commercial refrigeration preventive maintenance, including condenser coil cleaning and electrical inspections, is recommended to improve energy efficiency, reduce compressor operating temperatures, and help prevent unexpected refrigeration failures in busy restaurant and bar environments.

Completed commercial rooftop HVAC repair on a Rheem RKNL-A060JK10E rooftop unit after the customer reported the air conditioning system was not cooling properly. Upon arrival, the rooftop unit was powered on; however, the compressor was not operating. A detailed electrical inspection found the compressor run capacitor terminal connection had burned off, preventing the compressor from starting. The damaged terminal connection was repaired and securely reconnected, restoring normal compressor operation. After startup, system performance testing revealed an elevated discharge pressure of approximately 480 PSI, indicating poor condenser heat rejection. The condenser fan motor run capacitor was tested and found to be outside the manufacturer’s acceptable tolerance, reducing condenser fan performance. Replaced the failed condenser fan motor run capacitor and thoroughly cleaned the condenser coil to restore proper airflow and improve system efficiency. Following the repairs, the rooftop unit was restarted and monitored through normal operation. Final operating pressures stabilized at approximately 130 PSI suction and 430 PSI discharge, confirming improved refrigeration performance. Verified proper compressor operation, condenser fan operation, and overall cooling performance before leaving the site. At the time of departure, the Rheem rooftop unit was operating normally with proper airflow, stable refrigerant pressures, and reliable compressor operation. Routine commercial HVAC preventive maintenance, including condenser coil cleaning and capacitor testing, is recommended to improve energy efficiency, reduce compressor stress, and help prevent unexpected rooftop unit failures in commercial buildings.

Completed a commercial rooftop HVAC repair on a Trane packaged rooftop unit serving Coast To Coast Distribution in Austin, Texas. The customer reported the RTU was not cooling properly. Our technician returned with the required OEM replacement parts, including a liquid line filter drier, condenser fan motor capacitor, and new air filters. The sealed refrigeration system was opened, the existing liquid line filter drier was replaced, and the system was evacuated to a deep vacuum to remove moisture and non-condensable gases before being recharged to the manufacturer's factory refrigerant specifications. Additional preventive maintenance included cleaning both the condenser and evaporator coils, replacing eight air filters, clearing the condensate drain line, inspecting the blower belt, and replacing a weak condenser fan motor capacitor. Final operating pressures, compressor amperage, airflow, and condensate drainage were verified before leaving the site. The rooftop unit was restored to normal cooling operation and was operating within manufacturer specifications at the completion of service.

Completed a commercial walk-in cooler refrigerant conversion for Abu Omar Halal in Austin, Texas. The existing refrigeration system was operating with R-422B refrigerant and was converted to R-448A for improved long-term serviceability and efficiency. The existing refrigerant was properly recovered, the liquid line filter drier was replaced, and the refrigeration system was evacuated to a deep vacuum to remove moisture and contaminants before charging with virgin R-448A refrigerant. After startup, refrigerant charge was carefully adjusted while monitoring operating pressures, superheat, and subcooling to ensure proper system performance. A new refrigerant identification label was installed, and final testing confirmed stable operation and proper box temperature before the equipment was returned to service.

Setpoint Services completed a commercial Hoshizaki ice machine repair at Estância Brazilian Steakhouse in North Austin, Texas. We were subcontracted by HVAC Tech LLC to diagnose and restore proper operation of a Hoshizaki KM-2600SRJZ3 commercial ice machine after the unit experienced water flow issues affecting normal ice production. Upon inspection, our technician found that one of the water filters had been installed upside down in the filtration manifold, restricting water flow into the ice machine. The improperly installed filter was corrected, restoring proper water flow to the sump and evaporator water distribution system. After correcting the installation, the Hoshizaki ice machine was restarted and monitored through its operating cycle. Proper water fill was verified, and the machine successfully completed its normal freeze and harvest cycles without additional faults or operational issues. Ice production returned to normal, confirming the restriction had been eliminated. Proper water filtration installation is critical for commercial ice machines, as restricted water flow can reduce ice production, shorten harvest cycles, increase compressor run time, and contribute to premature component wear. Correcting the filter installation restored reliable operation without the need for additional repairs. The commercial Hoshizaki ice machine was fully operational upon departure, and no further repairs were required at the time of service. Setpoint Services provides commercial ice machine repair, preventative maintenance, water filtration services, and emergency refrigeration repair throughout Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park, and the surrounding Central Texas area.
