A thorough inspection revealed a major refrigerant leak at the base of the receiver — a critical component in the refrigeration circuit responsible for storing liquid refrigerant before it reaches the metering device.
Diagnosis: Full Refrigerant Loss from a Failed Receiver
The affected unit was a Norlake walk-in cooler evaporator (Model CPF100DC-A, Serial 13121631) operating on R404A refrigerant. Upon arrival, Han Li found the system had lost its entire charge, leaving the cooler unable to maintain safe storage temperatures. After confirming the leak source at the receiver, a complete repair plan was executed to restore the unit to proper operation.
Walk-In Cooler Repairs Performed
- Recovered any remaining refrigerant from the system
- Replaced the failed receiver responsible for the leak
- Replaced the liquid line filter drier to eliminate moisture and contaminants
- Pressure-tested the system with nitrogen to confirm no additional leaks
