Rooftop Exhaust Fan Replacement at a Georgetown Restaurant

Near W Second St Georgetown, TX 78626

May 13, 2026 — Georgetown, TX

Setpoint Services completed a rooftop commercial kitchen exhaust fan replacement at a Georgetown restaurant this week, following the installation of a new dishwasher exhaust hood system. The job was scheduled to bring the kitchen’s ventilation capacity up to the requirements of the new hood and to retire an aging exhaust fan that was no longer matched to the upgraded equipment underneath it.

Rooftop Exhaust Fan Replacement

The rooftop exhaust fan is the engine of a commercial kitchen’s exhaust hood system. When a restaurant adds new cooking or dishwashing equipment that produces more heat, steam, or grease-laden vapor, the existing fan often can’t keep up. An undersized or worn-out rooftop fan leads to poor capture at the hood, a hot back of house, lingering odors, and code-compliance issues that show up at the next inspection.

For this job, our team:

  • Hoisted the new rooftop exhaust fan into position on the roof curb
  • Removed the existing exhaust fan assembly
  • Set and secured the new commercial ventilation fan
  • Wired line-voltage power to the unit
  • Tested operation and verified proper airflow before leaving the roof

The old fan was lowered from the roof and left on-site for the restaurant team to dispose of.

Walk-In Cooler Refrigerant Leak Inspection

While on-site, we also performed a refrigerant leak inspection on the restaurant’s walk-in cooler evaporator and condenser. No refrigerant leaks were detected, and the sight glass remained full throughout the inspection — both good signs that the refrigerant charge is intact and the system is sealed.

We did note significant dirt buildup on the evaporator coil. A dirty evaporator coil restricts airflow across the coil, which over time can lead to:

  • Coil icing and frost buildup
  • Reduced cooling capacity inside the box
  • Longer run times and higher energy use
  • Premature compressor wear from sustained low-suction conditions

We recommended an evaporator coil cleaning to restore airflow and return the box to peak cooling efficiency before the summer heat load really arrives.

When a Rooftop Exhaust Fan Needs Replacement

Replacing a rooftop exhaust fan isn’t only triggered by an outright failure. The clearest signs a commercial kitchen is due for a new fan include:

  • Added or upgraded cooking equipment that overwhelms the existing hood’s capture
  • A new dishwasher exhaust hood that didn’t exist when the original fan was sized
  • Persistent grease loading, bearing noise, or belt and pulley issues on an aging fan
  • Failed fire-marshal or health-department items tied to ventilation performance
  • Visible corrosion or weatherproofing failure at the fan housing or roof curb

Matching fan capacity to the hood — and to the equipment beneath it — is the difference between a kitchen that vents properly and one that fights its ventilation system every shift.
