Setpoint Services responded to a residential cooling complaint after the homeowner reported the air conditioning system was overcooling the home and driving indoor temperatures into the low 60s.

Upon arrival, the thermostat was found in the OFF position while the outdoor condenser continued operating. Diagnostic testing confirmed the thermostat was not sending a cooling signal, indicating a mechanical failure within the outdoor control circuit.

Further testing determined the condenser contactor had failed in the closed position, causing the condenser to run continuously. This condition resulted in evaporator freeze-up, excessive cooling, and abnormal system operation.

The failed contactor was replaced and system operation was tested. Capacitors were inspected and verified within manufacturer specifications. Preventative maintenance was also performed, including condenser coil cleaning and condensate drain cleaning.

Following repairs, refrigerant pressures, electrical components, and overall system performance were verified. The air conditioning system was operating normally at the completion of service.
