Setpoint Services performed a commercial ice machine inspection on a Manitowoc Indigo ice machine at Paradise Dynasty Restaurant in Austin, Texas. The Manitowoc IY1894N-261 remote ice machine uses R-404A refrigerant and was inspected to determine its physical condition and suitability for being returned to service after reportedly remaining unused for more than five years. Visual inspection found the machine in relatively good physical condition with no significant corrosion, excessive mineral buildup, damaged wiring, or obvious refrigerant piping damage.
During the inspection, evidence of a previous ice thickness sensor replacement was found, and the existing water filtration manifold was discovered bypassed, allowing incoming water to feed the ice machine directly without filtration. Restoring proper commercial ice machine water filtration was recommended before returning the equipment to regular operation.
Electrical power and water were unavailable at the building during the service visit, preventing operational testing of the compressor, refrigeration system, water pump, controls, freeze cycle, and harvest cycle. Because the equipment could not be operated, its mechanical and refrigeration condition could not yet be confirmed. Setpoint Services recommended restoring power and water first so the Manitowoc ice machine can undergo a complete operational diagnostic. If the machine is operational or economically repairable, a complete ice machine deep cleaning and sanitization should then be performed before it is returned to ice production.
