True Beer Cooler Refrigerant Leak & Manitowoc Ice Machine Repair – Austin, TX 09.09.26

Setpoint Services performed commercial refrigeration and ice machine repair at Parmer Lane Tavern in Austin, Texas. Service included diagnosis and repair of a True Refrigeration TTI-95-38 beer cooler using R-134a refrigerant, along with troubleshooting of a Manitowoc commercial ice machine that was not operating and producing ice properly.
The True commercial beer cooler was found with a heavily iced evaporator coil that was significantly impacted with dirt, lint, and debris, restricting airflow through the refrigeration system. The cooler was shut down, the evaporator was completely thawed, and accumulated debris was removed to restore airflow. Further refrigeration diagnostics confirmed an active refrigerant leak at the evaporator coil. Permanent repair will require replacement of the leaking evaporator coil.
R-134a refrigerant was added as a temporary measure to restore the cooler's refrigerant charge while permanent repairs are pending. After service, the True cooler was restarted and monitored until the cabinet temperature reached approximately 36°F. The thermostat was tested and verified to satisfy properly at set temperature and shut the compressor off as designed. The cooler was operational and cooling beer properly at completion of service, although refrigerant loss may continue until the leaking evaporator coil is replaced.
The cooler's access doors were also found not closing and sealing completely. Inspection and correction of the door alignment, hardware, and seals were recommended because warm-air infiltration can increase refrigeration run time and contribute to evaporator icing.
The Manitowoc ice machine was found with loose wiring and unplugged electrical connectors. The connectors were reconnected, loose electrical connections were secured, and accessible connections were inspected. Following the electrical repair, the Manitowoc ice machine was tested and returned to normal operation and proper ice production
