Walk-In Freezer Service Call

Technician dispatched onsite for walk-in freezer not maintaining proper temperature. Customer advised refrigeration system is currently under another service provider for full diagnostic and repair work. Scope of service during this visit was limited to restoring temporary freezer operation and de-icing the evaporator coil.

Upon inspection, found the evaporator coil completely iced over, severely restricting airflow and reducing refrigeration performance. Disassembled evaporator section and fully de-iced evaporator coil to restore airflow and temporary cooling operation.

Additional Refrigeration Issues Found
Walk-in freezer door damaged and not sealing properly
Excessive moisture infiltration entering freezer box
Walk-in freezer heavily overstocked, restricting airflow
Existing refrigeration equipment appears undersized for current product load
Deteriorated/missing suction line insulation on roof
Long refrigeration line set contributing additional heat load
TXV sensing bulb loose and improperly mounted on suction line
Defrost clock settings improperly adjusted by previous parties
Refrigeration System Inspection

Verified condensing unit pumps down properly during defrost cycle. Confirmed defrost heaters energize during operation and measured approximately 6 amps heater draw during defrost.

Inspected defrost schedule and found:

Three 45-minute defrost cycles programmed throughout the day
One extended overnight defrost cycle programmed for approximately 2.5 hours

Current defrost settings appear to have been modified in an attempt to compensate for excessive evaporator icing conditions.

Suction Pressure: 34 PSI
Sight Glass: Full/Clear
Evaporator Temperature: Approximately 0°F after restart

Temporary cooling operation restored at time of departure.

Recommendations

Recommended quoting replacement TXV and properly securing sensing bulb to restore correct superheat control and reduce icing conditions. Customer should also address:

Damaged walk-in freezer door
Overstocking and airflow restrictions
Roof insulation deterioration
Overall refrigeration system load conditions

Due to excessive product load, damaged door seals, deteriorated insulation, airflow restrictions, and suspected TXV issues, no guarantee can be made regarding continued freezer performance or temperature maintenance.
