Setpoint Services completed a commercial refrigeration repair for a Domino's Pizza location in Austin, Texas after a rail cooler/prep table refrigeration system failed to maintain temperature.
Upon arrival, the refrigeration system was found completely out of refrigerant and operating in a vacuum condition. A leak search located a refrigerant leak at the drain line heater bend. The leak was repaired, pressure tested, evacuated, and the system was recharged with R-404A refrigerant. During startup, additional refrigerant flow issues were discovered, causing the system to repeatedly pull into a vacuum and trip the low-pressure safety control.
Further diagnostics identified contamination and restrictions within the refrigeration circuit. Setpoint Services flushed the refrigerant lines, replaced the liquid line filter drier, replaced both liquid line solenoid valves and solenoid coils, and installed a new low-pressure safety switch. During testing, the compressor was found to be mechanically locked and unable to operate.
A new compressor was installed, the refrigeration system was evacuated to a deep vacuum, and the unit was recharged with the factory-specified refrigerant charge. After startup, system operation, compressor performance, refrigerant flow, and low-pressure safety controls were verified.
Final testing included adjustment of the rail evaporator TXV to improve refrigerant feed and cooling performance. Rail temperatures improved significantly following repairs and adjustments. The rail cooler was operating and cooling at the completion of service.
