True GDM-49 Commercial Reach-In Cooler Compressor Start Repair – Austin, TX 10.06.26

Setpoint Services performed commercial refrigeration repair on a True GDM-49 reach-in display cooler at Thin Blue Smokery in Austin, Texas. The unit was found turned off, and diagnostic testing revealed that the compressor was repeatedly shutting down on its overload protector due to excessive amperage draw. Further inspection identified faulty compressor starting components preventing reliable operation.
The defective starting components were removed and replaced with a 1/2 HP hard-start kit. After installation, the compressor successfully restarted and operated normally, with an amperage reading of approximately 9 amps. The condenser coil was also thoroughly cleaned to improve airflow, heat rejection, and refrigeration efficiency. Because the cooler uses a critically charged refrigeration system, refrigerant pressures were not accessed to avoid disturbing the factory charge. Following repairs, the unit was monitored and successfully cooled below 40°F. The True reach-in cooler was operating properly and maintaining temperature at departure.
