Setpoint Services performed commercial refrigeration diagnostics and repair for SeamlessFM in Kerrville, Texas, after a reach-in freezer experienced cooling problems. The freezer was found turned off with its temperature controller incorrectly set to 48°F. The setpoint was corrected to −10°F, and the evaporator was inspected for ice accumulation. The rooftop condenser coil was thoroughly cleaned to improve airflow and heat rejection.
Refrigeration testing revealed low refrigerant conditions, with initial pressures of 32 PSI suction and 229 PSI discharge. A total of 9 pounds of refrigerant was added, clearing the sight glass and restoring cooling performance. Final operating pressures measured approximately 10 PSI suction and 275 PSI discharge, and the freezer successfully reached its required operating temperature.
Further leak detection identified oil staining and a strong electronic leak-detector response at the rooftop microchannel condenser coil, indicating a suspected refrigerant leak. The exact leak opening could not be confirmed due to limited access beneath the coil. Replacement of the condenser coil, liquid-line filter drier, and worn sight glass was recommended as a permanent repair. The freezer was operating and cooling properly at departure, but the refrigerant recharge was a temporary solution because the suspected condenser coil leak remained unresolved.
