A Cedar Park butcher shop had two Marc Refrigeration reach-in coolers — sharing one Heatcraft R-448A condensing unit — that kept icing up and couldn’t hold temperature. Our technician found both evaporator coils frozen over.
After completely de-icing both units, we worked with manufacturer technical support to check the controllers and found the real cause: the defrost settings on both units were set to zero, so the coolers never defrosted at all. We reprogrammed them to defrost every six hours for 30 minutes, ending at an 18°F coil temperature, then forced both units through a defrost cycle and confirmed they pumped down and ran properly.
