Setpoint Services performed commercial walk-in freezer refrigeration repair at Tony and Luigi's Italian Restaurant in Georgetown, Texas, after the customer reported that the freezer was not reaching its required temperature. The refrigeration system was equipped with a Bally BEHA020L6-HS2A-F condensing unit and Copeland CF06K6E-PFV-271 compressor, designed to operate with R-404A refrigerant.
During the inspection, the evaporator fan was operating normally, and the evaporator coil was free of ice buildup. However, the refrigerant sight glass was flashing, indicating a possible low refrigerant charge. Initial operating pressures measured approximately 13 PSI suction and 210 PSI discharge.
Further leak detection identified refrigerant escaping from the king valve service port. The valve was tightened, and leak seal was applied to the service cap. Follow-up testing found no additional leakage at the repaired connection. Two pounds of R-404A refrigerant were added, clearing the sight glass and increasing operating pressures to approximately 23 PSI suction and 240 PSI discharge.
Following the refrigerant recharge, the walk-in freezer resumed cooling and reached 19°F before the technician departed. However, abnormal whirring and clicking noises were detected from the Copeland compressor during operation, raising concerns about its mechanical condition and potential failure.
Additional compressor diagnostics and continued temperature monitoring were recommended to determine whether the freezer can reliably reach and maintain its required operating temperature. The refrigerant leak at the service valve was corrected, and cooling performance improved, but the compressor concern remains unresolved.
