Setpoint Services performed commercial walk-in cooler refrigeration diagnostics and repair in Jonestown, Texas, servicing a Trenton Refrigeration / KeepRite TPLP209MAS1DR6 evaporator and TEZA008H8-HS2D-B outdoor condensing unit operating on R-448A refrigerant.
The customer reported excessive ice accumulation on the walk-in cooler evaporator coil. Upon arrival, the technician inspected the refrigeration system and recorded initial operating pressures of approximately 50 PSI suction and 260 PSI discharge.
The evaporator defrost cycle was tested and confirmed to be functioning properly. The refrigeration system's pump-down operation was also verified, and the thermostat was checked to confirm accurate temperature readings.
Further refrigeration diagnostics identified an initial recorded evaporator superheat of approximately −4°F, indicating improper refrigerant feeding through the evaporator. The thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) was adjusted approximately 2.5 full turns to correct refrigerant flow and improve evaporator performance.
Following the adjustment, evaporator superheat stabilized at approximately 4°F. The technician continued monitoring the refrigeration system and confirmed that the walk-in cooler successfully reached its programmed temperature setpoint.
The Trenton commercial walk-in cooler was operating normally at the completion of service, with proper defrost operation, pump-down functionality, and temperature control verified. Continued monitoring was recommended to ensure that excessive evaporator ice accumulation does not return.
