The Symptom: Restricted Water Flow, Falling Ice Output

The unit — a Hoshizaki KM-2600SRJZ3 — was struggling to bring in enough water to run a proper cycle. The Diagnosis: A Water Filter Installed Upside Down

On inspection, one of the water filters in the filtration manifold had been installed upside down. A cartridge seated backwards restricts flow through the manifold and chokes off the water feeding the sump and the evaporator’s water distribution system. The filter itself was fine — it was simply oriented wrong, and that was enough to starve the machine of the water it needed to build a full ice slab.

How We Restored Operation

Because the problem was an installation error rather than a failed part, the correction was straightforward — but verification is what makes it a finished job:

  • Inspected the water side of the system and traced the restriction to the filtration manifold
  • Found one water filter installed upside down and corrected its orientation
  • Restored proper water flow into the sump and the evaporator water distribution system
  • Restarted the Hoshizaki ice machine and monitored it through a full operating cycle
  • Verified proper water fill and confirmed a clean freeze and harvest cycle with no faults
  • Confirmed ice production had returned to normal before departure
