Why the Clear Evaporator Coil Mattered

Checking the evaporator on a warm freezer is not a formality. When a walk-in cooler or freezer loses temperature, an iced-over evaporator is one of the most common causes — and it points the diagnosis in a completely different direction, toward defrost controls, airflow restriction, or a failing expansion valve.

Finding this coil clear ruled all of that out. Air was moving through the evaporator normally, which confirmed the problem lived on the condenser and charge side of the system. That is the difference between fixing a freezer and guessing at it.

A door that will not seal pulls warm, humid air into the box continuously. The compressor runs longer to fight heat that should never have entered the box, which drives energy costs up every hour the freezer operates and shortens compressor life over the long run.
